Book of Mormon Lesson 7: 1 Nephi Chapter 2
To Prepare: Read through the linked lesson above (be sure to read 1 Nephi Chapter 2) and print a copy of the activity below for each child participating. There is a choice today between a coloring/drawing page and a secret message.
To Teach: Begin with a prayer. We read 1 Nephi 2:1-2 aloud and asked the children what they would do if they had a dream they should pack up and leave their home. Most of them responded that they would react differently if they had a dream than if they knew the dream was from Heavenly Father. Then we read verses 3-4 to see what Lehi did. We talked about what he took vs what he left behind. They were very familiar with what Lehi left/took, but were a little surprised when we translated it into modern terms. (We’d leave the tv, computers, video games, toys, etc.)
We also talked about the three different ways Lehi’s sons reacted to their situation. Read verses 12-13 for Laman and Lemuel, verse 16 for Nephi, and verse 17 for Sam. We talked a lot about murmuring, and how – so far – what Laman and Lemuel were doing wrong was the same thing we ALL might be doing in their situation…complaining.
Then we read verses 19-24 to see what blessings Nephi was promised, and the conditions placed on those promises. God blesses those who are obedient and faithful!
Finish by doing the activity sheets. You did it!
