Pictures for Teaching ‘O Holy Night’

My Primary is going to be singing O Holy Night this year. To make teaching the kids a little easier, I made this pack of pictures to illustrate the lyrics. I’m hoping that seeing the same pictures over and over (particularly the picture for ‘night’) will help the kids pick it up quicker!

Be warned: if you’re wary of color printing, this is not the file for you. Click on the thumbnail below to download the complete PDF!

I realize that there are different versions of O Holy Night that might have slightly different lyrics or a slightly different order. The version our Primary uses comes from www.makingmusicfun.net. (You can find it here.)

In case it’s not super clear, here are the words the pictures are meant to correspond to.

Temple – holy
Moon and stars – night
Stars – stars
Light bulb – shining
Jesus with Outstretched arms – Savior’s
Baby Jesus in the Manger – Birth/Born
Ruler/Earth – long lay the world
Red X – Error
Pine Tree – pining
Treasure – worth
HOPE – hope
Earth with a party hat – world rejoices
Broken Stick – breaks
Sunrise – glorious morn
Fall leaf – fall
Kneeling man – knees
Man Listening – hear
Angel – angel voices
Shepherds looking at the star – divine

I hope this helps someone else, and good luck singing!

Just a Little Something

My daughter recently found a little piece of embroidery I did many years ago. (It’s not much embroidery – the picture is printed on and I just embroidered some accents, like the wings and the flowers.) She liked it. She wanted it. So I framed it and put it in her bedroom.

It makes her happy. And that makes me happy!

I’m Trying to Be Like Jesus (Review!)

Today was our second week singing I’m Trying to Be Like Jesus! To review, I printed out this flipchart of the song (simple and sweet).

First I scrambled the first verse on the board and had the kids help me put the words in the right order.

Then I added the pictures for the second verse and taught that.

Then we were ready to review both verses! I handed out pictures on a stick – one Jesus, and one boy or girl to each child.

We talked about how this song is all about us (each of us) and Jesus. I told the kids to listen hard and find when it was talking about them (I, I’m, my) and when it was talking about Jesus (Jesus, He, Him). We sang and held up the right stick at the right time. Even Junior Primary was concentrating super hard to make sure they held up the right picture!

I found the art for these on lds.org, and I’ve stuck them together for printing if you want to do this activity. Click on the picture below to open the PDF!

Good luck, and I hope this helps your Primary!
